Draper Horizons has applied jet engine film cooling technology to the internal combustion engine. The technology promises to improve efficiency, reduce heat transfer, suppress knock, and control emissions.

1/3 reduction in heat transfer
20% Efficiency Increase
The Film Cooled engine increases power density and efficiency at peak operating conditions, making the technology attractive to Racing. HCCI and Stratified Charge engines can both benefit from film cooling. The CFD verifies manufacturable configurations provide positive results. The Low Cost modifications will be offset by reduced cooling system size.

US patent (#6,951,193) issued this year with broad claims and prior art dating to Robert Goddard.
International patents on manufacturing, controls, other applications, and fluid details are filed.
Draper Horizons has developed a test plan to conclusively demonstrate the technology.
